Press Officer


ADCS is looking to recruit a highly creative and skilled Press Officer to join our busy and expanding team. Working closely with the policy team in our central Manchester office, project officers in the regions and the Association’s Board of Directors, the Press Officer will devise and deliver effective press campaigns designed to promote the Association, its events and publications with the overall aim of raising the profile of children’s services. Acting as the main point of contact for all media enquiries, the Press Officer must be an excellent communicator with strong written and verbal skills, have a flair for identifying media opportunities and the ability to cultivate strong and supportive relationships with key journalists.

The ideal candidate will have a background in press and communications and will ideally have experience of working with or in the public sector and alongside lots of different partners and stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must as is a keen eye for detail and accuracy which will be applied to proofreading and website editing, and copywriting skills for print and web. The role has a particular focus on digital media and trade press relations but also offers the chance to get involved in the entire marketing process.

Candidates should be familiar with the work of local authorities and will be expected to seek to develop good working relationships with the Association’s membership across the country, sourcing appropriate spokespeople for media interviews and in turn promoting the wide range of work undertaken by local authority children’s services.

Business Support Assistant


ADCS is looking to recruit an experienced administrator to join our busy and expanding team. This is a full time position, however, we will consider applicants on a part-time or job-share basis. Please specify any preference in your covering letter.

Working closely with the policy team and the ICT Officer in our central Manchester office, and with support officers in the regions, the post-holder will have a particular focus on bringing more visibility to the work of the regions by gathering and sharing good practice from and between the nine regions and the national Association.

For the right candidate, this role also offers the chance to get involved in supporting the entire administrative business of the Association working with the ICT Officer on processing membership applications; maintaining membership records and recording and developing Management Information to support the Association’s policy development functions.

The post-holder will be expected to develop good working relationships with the Association’s membership across the country, and in turn promote the wide range of work undertaken by ADCS nationally and local authority children’s services departments.

This opportunity is well suited to a candidate with excellent organisational skills, a close attention to detail, a good working understanding of Microsoft Office packages and a commitment to providing excellent member support services.
