Heather Sandy, Chair of the ADCS Inclusive Education Network said:
“ADCS welcomes the publication of the Curriculum and Assessment Report and its recognition that education should prepare children not just for exams, but for life. Education has the power to enhance children’s wellbeing, shape their aspirations, and transform their life chances. ADCS believes that a curriculum grounded in academic rigour and creativity, underpinned by essential life skills and a strong focus on personal growth, is key to helping every young person thrive in a rapidly changing world.
“We welcome the report’s emphasis on stronger foundations in literacy, numeracy, and oracy; renewed attention to arts, PE, and digital learning; and a greater focus on citizenship and practical skills such as financial, media, and climate literacy. These changes point towards the broad, balanced education every child needs to thrive in modern society.
“This report is an important staging point on the longer journey of whole system reform. It is vital that all elements of reform, from curriculum and assessment to accountability and the SEND system, align to form a coherent whole in the delayed Schools White Paper. Only through genuine coherence can we create an education system that delivers improved outcomes for every child, in every community.
“Reform on this scale also requires adequate central funding and sufficient capacity locally. Local authorities, schools, and wider partner agencies need the right resources and stability to deliver these ambitions. Investment is essential if we are serious about ensuring that no child is left behind.”
